He was the son of John Wesley Hanson and Rosalia 'Rose' (Bleth) Hanson. He had one sister, Anna Jean Hanson Johnson, and his brother was 1st Lt John Wesley Hanson, who was a Navigator and was MIA-KIA on a raid to Rabaul, Papua New Guinea in B-17F #41-24458.

B-24G #42-78180 'Maiden USA' crashed near Manduria, Italy on a bombing mission to Varese, Italy 25 April 1944 when it came under heavy enemy attack and was shot down by an FW-109. The crew members were~

YAKIMA - Bruce Peter Hanson, former Yakima County Superior Court Judge, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday evening, June 8. Bruce was born on July 7, 1922 in Breckenridge, Minnesota to John and Rose (Bleth) Hanson.

Bruce was raised in Minot, North Dakota until his family moved to Missoula, Montana. In 1939 Bruce graduated from Missoula County High School. He entered the University of Montana in 1940 and two years later entered into the United States Army Air Corp. Bruce was a Sargeant[sic] in the 18th[sic] Air Force, flying out of Italy as a gunner in a B-24 Bomber. In April of 1944 Bruce was shot down by a German Fighter. He was a Prisoner of War at Stalag Luft III. On April 29th, 1945 the camp was liberated by General George S. Patton Jr's 3rd Army. After an Honorable Discharge from the service, Bruce reentered the University of Montana. Bruce graduated in 1948 with a L.L.B. and J.D. degree in law.

In 1951 Bruce moved to Yakima and practiced law until 1972 when he was elected to the Yakima County Superior Court. He retired from the bench in 1990. Bruce was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Washington Superior Court Judges Association for three years as well as being a member of the State Bar and Judges Association Committee. Bruce officed with Thorner, Kennedy and Gano Law Firm for several years. It was there he mostly did mediation and serving as judge pro tem in several counties.

Bruce married Vera Marie Conway on December 22, 1946 and after 40 years of marriage she passed away. Together they raised seven children; Mary Ann Hanson (husband David Walker) of Fieldbrook, CA, John Hanson (wife Lynn, children Andrea, Dianna, Michal and Tessa) of Kennewick, WA, Peggy Hanson (children Sam, Caitlin and Julianna) of Sunnyside, WA, Jeff Hanson of Seattle, WA, Mark Hanson (wife Marian, children Michael and Erica) of Lynnwood, WA, Lyn Hanson of Yakima, WA, and Sue Valentine (husband Seth, children Alicen and Wesley Maier) of Spokane, WA. Bruce is also survived by his sister, Anna Jean Johnson of Polson, MT. Bruce married Judy Dampier on June 19, 1992. Judy passed away in 2003.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and brother, John Wesley Hanson.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at 11 AM at The Seasons; located at 101 North Naches Avenue in Yakima. A private family graveside will be held at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to Northstar Lodge or a charity of one's own choice.

The family would like to thank Northstar Lodge, Dr. VonStubbe, and all the wonderful nurses that treated dad like a king. Also thank you to all of dad's friends that visited him during his illness.
