George G. McGavin, 88, former member of the Upper Snake River Valley Dairymen's Assn., died Friday at an Idaho Falls hospital of a heart condition.
He was born November 29, 1888 at Lewiston, Utah, a son of Robert McGavin Jr. and Rozellia Gee McGavin. He attended schools in Star Valley, Wyoming.
He was married to Hazel Jeanette Tanner at Idaho Falls, June 12, 1919. The marriage was solemnized at the Idaho Falls LDS Temple, June 5, 1954. They resided at Etna and Thayne, Wyoming, moving to Idaho Falls in 1925. She died in 1962.
In 1965 he retired from the Upper Snake River Valley Dairyman's Assn. During his lifetime he also had a bicycle dealership in Idaho Falls. He was a member of the LDS Church, was secretary of the Priests' Quorum, a home teacher, and at the time of his death was a high priest in the 8th LDS Ward.
Survivors include three sons, Wilford McGavin, Orvin McGavin, and Glen McGavin, all of Idaho Falls; four daughters, Mrs. Marvin (Wanda) Shurtliff and Mrs. Jay (Clara) Stacy, both of Idaho Falls, Mrs. LaMar (Helen) Leatham of Pocatello, and Mrs. Dale (Verla) Randall of Grant; four sisters, Mrs. Elsie Robinson of Idaho Falls, Mrs. Mary Call and Mrs. Erma Blackham, both in California, and Mrs. Jessie Loveland in Utah; 24 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Wood Funeral Home Chapel of the Pines, Bishop Bruce Newbold of the 8th LDS Ward officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
