George Stearns was born August 16, 1842 the son of Samuel and Mary (Moore) Stearns. George was nineteen when he enlisted in the 9th NH Vol. Inf. Reg. Co. I on August 7, 1862 as Corp. He was wounded at South Mountain, MD September 14, 1862. He died of disease December 24, 1862 at West Philadelphia Hospital, Philadelphia, PA.
