The son of George & Veronica "Freny" (Eshleman) Ehrman, in 1850 he was living with his family in Derry Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. In 1860, he was a laborer who stood 5' 4" tall with black hair and gray eyes, but he is not found in that census.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Lebanon September 18., 1861, mustered into federal service there October 12 as a private with Co. D, 93rd Pennsylvania Infantry, but died from an unspecified disease. He is not found in the company register but is in the Pennsylvania Archives' ARIAS file and the muster roll. The location of his death is not listed.
