Jeannette was the middle daughter to Samuel and Candelaria Luna; she had an older sister, Sandra, following was her brother, Ivan, and younger sister, Brenda. She was a beautiful, attractive, intelligent, wonderful, special, loving, and caring sister. Family and friends remembered her as being "strong opinionated" and "outspoken"- that was only because she verbally expressed what she felt unlike others. She had a crazy sense of humor. Overall, she was a wonderful person- my sister.
Jeannette enjoyed traveling as she did with her friends, within the states and out of countries. She enjoyed cooking, hanging out & dancing with her friends and enjoyed music. She was also a member of the NYC marathons; where she and her great friend- Lina- ran the marathons for a good cause. She also participated in church services with my mother at St. Bartholomew's Roman Catholic Church.
I can honestly say that Jeannette was loved by so many people around her. Jeannette was a private and personal person; during her battle with ovarian cancer, only a few family & friends knew about her struggle and fight. Sadly enough, her fight became a battle, where her friends and family members intervened and were with her by her bedside at home and at the hospital. Her countless friends and family members were exceptionally supportive with visits, prayer services and just "holding her hand" and saying "it's okay; you are strong and we're going fight this- as she smiled with those big dimples"; unfortunately, the ovarian cancer was an aggressive one. We will always remember Jeannette's friends and our family members who were with her in her journey to God's hands. I would like to especially say "thank you" from the bottom of my heart- to my sister, Brenda, and Maria- her BFF- who were present when Jeannette took her last breath on February 15, 2012 @5:00am at the North Shore Long Island Jewish Hospital, NY. When we reached the hospital- her room, my mother and father softly called out her name, "Jeannette"- my sister, heard it and "smiled"; the tears in both my mother's and father's eyes just fell passionately as we all cried and requested for a pastor. Shortly within minutes, Jeannette's friends and family members came to join us at her bedside as the pastor conducted his prayer service.
At the funeral and church services, we were so amazed to see and acknowledge the numerous friends and family members who came to show their respect and support to the Luna family. My sister, Jeannette, expressed her wishes to spread her ashes across Miami Beach, Florida; her wish will be respected. This may be a closure but her memories will always be with us. Jeannette, you are in peace now watching over us; I love you, Jeannette. Love you always, Sandra, Ivan and Brenda- your brother sisters, papi and mami.
