Friday, Sept. 10, 1897
Mary Ann Western died at her home in Columbus township, after a lingering illness, September 7, 197, aged 82 years. In 1839, she came to this country from Ireland and settled in Cincinnati. On May 12, 1842, she was married to William Western, and with him settled on the farm where she spent the remainder of her days. This union was blessed with six children, one of whom died in infancy. The other five, together with ten grandchildren, remain to mourn. On January 29, 1881, death claimed her husband, and for more than sixteen years she traveled life's journey alone. She was a faithful wife and mother, a good citizen and neighbor, and left evidence that she died trusting in her Savior and has gone to rest.
Funeral services were conducted at the home, and her remains laid to rest by the side of her husband in Sandhill cemetery.
