Patrick "Gerry" McCormick,"He was one of the Best", (The Old Man), a longtime resident of Albuquerque, died Monday morning, at the age of 60, after a heroic battle with cancer.

In 1948, at age 6, he moved from Blaine, KS to Albuquerque with his family.

In September 1961, he married Tonia Wells. During their 40 years together, Gerry and Toni raised three children and enjoyed two grandsons.

Gerry worked for Cummins Diesel for 35 years. He devoted his life and work to his parents, his wife, his children and grandchildren.

Gerry was very fond of nicknames. His wife had one, his children many, and he and his grandsons referred to each other simply as "pal".

Until the bitter end, Gerry was ready with a witty quip, a practical joke, or a favorite story.

He was preceded in death by his father, William McCormick; his sister, Mary Jean McCormick; and his niece and goddaughter, Siobhan McCormick.

He is survived by his mother, Marie McCormick of Albuquerque; his wife, Tonia McCormick of Albuquerque; his son, James McCormick and his wife, Tanya Montessi of Fort Worth; his daughter, Sue Simpson and her husband, Steven Simpson of Albuquerque; his daughter, Beth McCormick and her husband, Mark Mitchell of Seattle; his grandsons, Sean Simpson and Ryan Simpson of Albuquerque; his brother, Hugh McCormick and his wife, Patricia of Denver; his sister, Dolores Frank of Chicago; his sister, Marita Roeder of Denver; 11 nieces and nephews; and nine great-nieces and nephews.
