IS PINIONED UNDER FORD CAR
Garland Thomas Doggett lies in the Montgomery Hospital at Grant in a very critical condition as a result of an automobile accident which occurred last Friday noon half mile south of Grant.
J. A. Carlson and Mr. Doggett, who live northwest of Morton Mills, were on their way home from Grant and were riding in the former's Ford Car. Mr. Carlson who was driving, turned slightly in speaking to his companion and the car started toward the bank at the side of the road. A sudden turn of the steering wheel to straighten the course of the machine caused the car to turn completely over twice. Mr. Carlson's left shoulder was dislocated and he was badly bruised, but he was able to summon help for the purpose of lifting the machine off Mr. Doggett who was pinioned under the car all this time.
The men were taken to the Dr. Montgomery hospital in Grant, where it was found that Mr. Doggett's spine had been injured, causing paralysis from the waist down. He was unconscious when taken to the hospital and with the exception of short intervals has remained in that condition. There is very little hope for his recovery. Mr. Doggett is 67 years of age. He formerly lived at Villisca and has made his home two miles northwest of Morton Mills for the past 20 years or more.
Mrs. Mary Moore and N. B. Doggett of Osceola, Nebraska and A. A. Doggett of this city, sister and brother of the unfortunate man and the members of his own family have been at his bedside a great deal of the time since the accident occurred, expecting any hour to be the last.
