Burial with military honors will be in the Trondhjem Cemetery, rural Veblen. Edwin passed away Thursday, March 8, 2012, at Sundial Manor in Bristol, at the age of 88.
Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Price Funeral Chapel of Britton.
Edwin Bratsveen was born September 7, 1923, in Havana, N.D. to Lauritzen and Elida (Brubakken) Bratsveen. As a youngster, he moved with his family to Rapid City, SD where he grew up and attended school. Edwin's parents passed away when he was young and his sister Josie became his caretaker.
Edwin was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II. He served for three years and received numerous medals and citations. After completion of military service Ed worked as a horse rancher for a period of time.
On February 27, 1945, he married his loving wife Eda Christine Damgaard at Webster, SD. They worked for several farmers in the Britton/Claremont area; then moved to Aberdeen and finally settled in Kidder in 1972 where they called home and worked as a construction worker in the regional area. He put his carpentry skills to use by making hand crafted gifts for his family.
Edwin was a member of First Lutheran Church of Britton. He also belonged to Britton Post #80 of the American Legion and Marshall Post #3507 of the V.F.W. of Britton. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan. He was a very proud Norwegian who will be greatly missed by his loving family.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 67 years, Eda Bratsveen, of Bristol, SD; seven children: Dan (Marlys) Bratsveen of Bellevue, NE; Larry (Joan) Bratsveen of Sullivan, MO; Shirley (Robert) Gloden of San Antonio, TX; Donna (Don) Walterman of Rochester, MN; Louie (Sandy) Bratsveen of Britton, SD; Susan (Ross) Curan of Lake Villa, IL; Penny (Jeff) Moerke of Hampshire, IL; 21 Grandchildren; 16 Great-Grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and their families.
Preceding him in death were his parents; five sisters: Gladys, Josie, Lillian, Lucy, Hazel; a brother Alvin and three grandchildren: Nicole and Keith Gloden and Eric Bratsveen
