Killed in action, September 26, 1918.
Private Samuel SCHLESS, of 234 Pulaski street, son of Peter SCHLESS,
wrote to his father Sept. 1 saying that if the Huns kept up the rate at which
they were running the American boys would be in Berlin by Thanksgiving
and home by Christmas. The War Department telegram says SCHLESS
was killed in action between Sept. 27 and 30. He was a member of the
105th Machine Gun Battalion. Before entering army service he was
employed as a clerk for the Standard Oil Company.

Private Samuel SCHLESS, of 234 Pulaski street, reported killed in action
between Sept. 27 and 30, was a member of Company D, 318th Infantry.
He was a son of Louis SCHLESS and lived with his father and sister at
that address. His mother has been dead several years. Prior to his
entering the service he was employed in a shoe factory.
