Elijah Davis was the son of James B Davis and Elizabeth Hawkins, and the Grandson of Charles Edwin Davis and Hannah Gaines. Elijah was born in Jessamine County, Kentucky in 1818. Elijah's dad James B Davis moved the family to Cass County Illinois in 1835 near Virginia, Illinois. Elijah married Elizabeth Shoopman in 1837 in Cass County, Illinois. I do not know when they moved from Cass County Illinois to Cass County Missouri. Elijah Davis' sons James P and John B Davis and families stopped over in Cass Co, MO in the winter of 1878 on their way to Texas from Cass Co, IL. Elizabeth (Shoopman)Davis is also buried here. James B Davis, Elijah's dad and Elijah's younger brothers Edward and Richard Lee Davis are buried in Clark Cemetery in Cass County Illinois. Elijah Davis and family can be found on the Census for Cass County, Illinois for the years 1840, 1850, and 1860, and on the Cass County, Missouri Census for 1880. We could not find them listed for the 1870 Census in either Illinois or Missouri.
