Services for Chester A. Morehouse, 81, Homer businessman for 44 years, will be held at 2 p.m. April 13 in Urbana with Rev. Arthur Scott of Homer Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be at GAR Cemetery in Homer.
Masonic services were conducted April 12.
Mr. Morehouse died at 3:15 p.m. April 10 at the Danville Veterans Administration Hospital where he had been a patient since March 19.
A retired funeral director and insurance man, he had owned and operated the Morehouse Funeral Home in Homer since 1924.
He was born in Mahomet Jan. 3, 1887, a son of H. J. and Laura Morehouse. He was first married to Roma Renner. She died in 1947. He later married Bessie Gilmore Jones.
She survives, as does a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Laura) Stigler of Clinton Sherman Air Force Base, Okla.; 5 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mrs. Nell Morrison of Mahomet and Mrs. May Phlester of Socorro, N. Mex.; 2 step-children, Mrs. Richard (Pauline) Heinrichs of Fresno, Calif., and Gerald Jones of Champaign, and several step-grandchildren.
He was a 50-year member of both Homer Masonic Lodge 199 and Homer American Legion Post 290. He also was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and Homer Methodist Church.
He was a member of the Barbershoppers in Champaign for a number of years and was active in Boy Scout work. He served as chairman of Champaign County Red Cross Chapter for several years.
