She was the widow of Norman Douglas Stratton who died in 1972 at the age of 55.
During most of her married life she lived in New Jersey, raising a family, attending Central Baptist Church and being a wonderful stay-at-home mom. In 1970 she and her husband retired to Roseland, Virginia and after her husband's death, she became the manager of the Colleen Dairy Isle until age 72. She was a faithful member of Bethlehem Methodist Church, a lover of gardens and a wonderful cook.
She is survived by two children, Virginia (Bunny & Chick) Dougherty and John (Carole) Stratton; two siblings, Burnley Harvey and Thomas Carter; 4 grand- children, Michael (Maggie) Dougherty, Wesley Stratton, Douglas (Palmer) Stratton and Becca Dougherty and 3 great-grandchildren, Carter, Kate and Brendan Dougherty and many nieces and nephews.
As one of 10 children who survived infancy, Mrs. Stratton was preceded in death by seven sisters: Sally Whitehead, Maria Caillouet, Jean Debnam, Frances Auton, Anna Catherine Langran, Roberta Shortt and Hardenia Lincoln. A great reunion in heaven has occurred.
A celebration of the resurrection will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home in Roseland, with the Rev. C. Randall Harlow officiating. Interment will follow in Jonesboro Cemetery in Roseland.
