Marinette Eagle Star, September 24, 1963

Mrs. Charles Betters, 75, life-long resident of Marinette who lived at 315 Bay View St., died at 5:45 a.m. today in Marinette General Hospital where she had been a patient since September 18. Death followed an illness of a year. The former Mayme Gamlin was born in this city October 8, 1887. She married Mr. Betters October 4, 1910, in St. Joseph's Church. The late Father Corry officiated. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in October 1960. Surviving with her husband are a son, Mervin of Chicago, and three daughters, Mrs. Andrew Penl and Mrs. Henry Keller of Marinette and Mrs. Harold Fritz of Peshtigo. Also surviving are five brothers and a sister, all of Marinette. They are Albert, George, Louis, Myron, and William Gamlin and Florence Belanger. There are 26 grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Joseph St. Peter, died a mouth ago. Services will be conducted Thursday at 9 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, of which she was a member. The Rev. Omer J. Champagne will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery [N.B.: apparently Woodlawn]. Friends may call at the Zeiler funeral home after 4 p.m., Wednesday. The rosary will be recited Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
