Julia W. Strong, 89, of River Road, Milan, died Thursday morning, March 22, 2012, in Fisher-Titus Medical Center, Norwalk.
She was born Aug. 23, 1922, in Water Valley, Miss. Her father was a Methodist pastor and a district superintendent throughout her childhood. She was a graduate of Millsaps College in 1943 with a degree in chemistry and was president of her sorority, Beta Sigma Omicron. After graduation, she taught at Jefferson Military Academy in Washington, Miss., then went to work in Oak Ridge, Tenn., at the laboratory.
She married Herbert Strong on Dec. 3, 1944, in Greenville, Miss., and lived with her family in Corinth, Miss., while Herbert was deployed to the Phillipines. Upon his return, they moved to Ohio.
She was a long-standing member of Edison Memorial Methodist Church, Milan. She taught school in Berlin Heights and retired from Huron Schools. She had been an active member of United Methodist Women, several weekly Bible studies, a member of Erie County Retired Teachers' Association and the Strong Family Association of America.
She is survived by a son Thomas Strong, wife Debbie, of North Fairfield; daughter Pam (Strong) Wallace, husband Rodney, of Alto, Texas; grandchildren, Shelley (Strong) Soviak of Richwood, Ohio, Brian Strong of Tipp City, Ohio, Adam Strong of Willard, and Nathan and Peyton Wallace of Alto; and her sister Sara (Wasson) Edwards of Branson, Miss.
She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert Strong (Milan) and parents, L.P. Wasson and Georgia (Mississippi).
Memorial services will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, at Edison Memorial United Methodist Church, Milan. Refreshments will be served in the basement afterwards.
