Charles N. Guerrero Charles N. (Charlie) Guerrero passed away March 20, 2012 after a battle with cancer.

Born September 27th 1932 in Bernalillo, NM, to Samuel and Madeline Guerrero (nee Hutto), the family moved to Oklahoma City in 1935.

Charlie graduated from John Carrol High School in 1950 where he was a 4.0 GPA student and a member of the two-time Oklahoma Catholic School State Champion basketball team.

Charlie attended Oklahoma City University on a basketball scholarship and earned his Bachelor's degree magna cum laude in education in 1954.

It was at OCU he met the first love of his life, Caryl Joy Niles and they married in 1954.

Charlie joined the Naval Reserve in 1951 and obtained the rank of Chief Petty Officer prior to his retirement in 1986.

In 1962 after the birth of four of their seven children, the family moved to Douglas, AZ where he took a position teaching at Douglas Junior High.

Charlie pursued his passion for sports through coaching and officiating serving as an assistant football coach at Douglas High and a football referee.

He began his Junior College administrative career at Cochise College and also served as assistant basketball and golf coach.

In 1970, after the birth of two more of the "Magnificent Seven", the family moved to Sacramento, CA where Charlie worked for the American College Testing Program.

In 1973, after the last of the "Seven" was born, Charlie moved the family to Porterville, CA where he began his work at Porterville College.

He served at PC in many capacities including Associate Dean, Dean of Student Services and Vice President of Student Services.

In 1993 after his wife Caryl passed away, Charlie met the second love of his life, Patricia Barker (nee Mathias) with whom he spent his last 19 years of marital bliss. Charlie and Patricia moved to a home in Tulare and Charlie added another son to his large family.

Continuing his passion for youth sports, Charlie served as Commissioner of Officials in the Central Section of the California Interscholastic Federation for 26 years.

He was a member, officer and committee member of the Association of Community College Administrators, the Needs Analysis Team of the California Student Aid Commission and the WASFAA, Consultant to the United States Office of Education and President of the CCCSFAA. He served as Vice President of the Association of Mexican-American Educators and Chairman of the Porterville Cinco de Mayo Parade Committee. Charlie was a devout Catholic, a member of the CCD Executive Board and Chairman of the Bishop's Charity Development Fund Drive in Arizona and held a third degree membership in the Knights of Columbus.

Charlie is survived by his wife Patricia, sister Mary Connor, brother Mark Guerrero, daughter Becky and son-in-law Randy Whited and grandchildren Zachary and Alyssa and great granddaughter Maycie, son Rob and daughter-in-law Liz Guerrero and grandsons Josh, Casey and Nicolas, son Randy and daughter-in-law Ann Guerrero and grandchildren Cameron and Emma, son Rodger and partner Tye Johnson, daughter Raquel and son-in-law Bob Haas and grandsons Will and Matt, daughter Ruth and son-in-law Ken Krank and granddaughters Zoe and Faith, daughter Jody and son-in-law Gregg Bruno and grandchildren Ben, Samantha and Madeline, stepson Preston and stepdaughter-in-law Donna Barker and step granddaughter Alex.

There will be a viewing from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Peers Lorentzen Funeral Chapel in Tulare on Sunday, March 25th.

The Rosary will be prayed Monday, March 26th at 6:00 p.m. at St. Aloysius Church and a Catholic Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 27th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church with a celebration of life to follow at the Tulare Women's Club, 88 W. Tulare Ave., Tulare.

For those who wish to attend, the burial will follow the celebration of life on Tuesday at St. Anne's Cemetery in Porterville, CA.

In lieu of flowers Charlie wished that donations be made to the Guerrero Family Scholarship at Monache High School in Porterville, CA or the Tulare Historical Society.
