Obituary:
Six days after relatives from four states arrived to attend a family reunion and satisfy her "greatest desire," Mrs. Josephine S. Wilson, one of the founders of the Seventh Street Baptist Church, died at 5:30 o'clock yesterday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H.O. Sneed, of Whitehaven. She was 86 years of age. "Her greatest desire was that of having all her family together again at Christmas time," relatives said. "Every member of the immediate family except a son, Dr. H.E. Wilson, who is ill at El Paso, attended." Mrs. Wilson, widow of Charles C. Wilson, had been in ill health for about 10 days, but did not become seriously ill until Christmas Eve. A native of Georgia, she had lived in Shelby County for about 30 years. She was formerly active in affairs of Seventh Street Church and moved to Whitehaven a year ago. She leaves nine children, Dr. Wilson, Mrs. Carl M. Shelton of Los Angeles, Mrs. Z.D. Lynch of San Augustine, Texas, James A. Wilson of Chicago, Mrs. A.S. Genette of Dyersburg, Tenn., Mrs. Sneed, Mrs. Roy Sutton, Mrs. T.W. Ramsey and W.D. Wilson, all of Memphis. Funeral services will be held at 11 o'clock this morning at the National Funeral Home with the Rev. L.B. Cobb and the Rev., W.C. Furr officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Mrs. Wilson's grandsons, Sidney W. Genette, Hurd H. Sutton, Charles Kimmons Wilson, Milton J. Fletcher, V.O. Sneed, Charles C. Sutton, James M. Sutton, and William H. Ramsey. (Published in The Commercial Appeal, Memphis, TN, on Wednesday, December 29, 1937)
