MATTOON - Dorothy Burgess, age 82, of Mattoon, IL, passed away at 5:45 p.m., Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at the River Birch Senior Living Center in Springfield, IL. The funeral service in her honor will begin at 2:00 p.m., March 29, 2012, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 320 North 21st St, Mattoon, IL. Reverend Dennis Kollross will officiate. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service (Noon – 2:00 p.m.), also at the church. Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL, 61938 is assisting the family with arrangements. Born June 19, 1929, in Mattoon, IL, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Frank and Dorothy B. (White) Littleton. Survivors include two daughters, Holly Pickowitz and husband Joe of Pesotum, IL, and Kim Russell and husband Dr. Brian Russell of Springfield, IL; one sister, Mary Hardin of Mattoon, IL; four grandchildren, Wesley Russell of Kansas City, KS, Patrick Russell of Houma, LA, Kevin Russell of Chicago, IL; and Sarah Russell of Charleston, IL; and 3 nieces and five nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Dorothy was a lifelong member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Mattoon, IL, and was the secretary for Blaw Knox Corporation for thirty years. She later served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Dorothy was a wonderful mother and an active and devoted grandmother. A great cook, known especially for her pies, she loved to cook for her family. She also had a green thumb, liked feeding birds, and enjoyed the company of her cats.
