Joe Coon Jr., 77, Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed from this life Tuesday, March 27, 2012.
Joe was born in Stillwell, Oklahoma to Joe Coon Sr. and Nancy (Campbell) Coon, on October 23, 1934. For many years, Joe worked as a foundry worker in the cast iron molding industry. Staying busy, especially working, was a high priority for Joe. After retirement , he could now enjoy the outdoors with his beloved family. Cook-outs, fishing, watching baseball games, and watching his favorite bird, the eagle, occupied his pastime. Singing gospel music and transposing them into the Cherokee language was a passion to Joe. The legacy of his life, Joe now leaves to his family. They all know that he will see every baseball game the grandkids play and be there in spirit to cheer them on. The wonderful attitude and great smile of Joe's will be greatly missed by both family and friends.
Preceding Joe in death are his parents Joe, Sr. and Nancy Coon; brother Wilson Campbell; sisters Martha Scott, Mary Jane Galcatcher, Mazola Galcatcher, and Bobbie Seay.
Survivors are daughters Carmaleta Coon of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Helenia "Scooter" Rusher of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Charlene Coon-Mann and husband Harold of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Kim Hughes and husband Ian of Tulsa, Oklahoma; sister Stella Flute of Tahlequah, Oklahoma,; grandson Nathan Boyd; 9 other grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; many other relatives including nieces, nephews, cousins; and a host of friends.
Funeral services for Joe will be Friday, March 30, 2012, at 11:00 A.M. in the Olivet Baptist Church, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Interment will be Saturday, March 31, 2012, at 2:00 P.M. at the Echota Baptist Church, Rocky Mountain, near Stillwell, Oklahoma. Visitation for Joe will be Thursday, March 29, 2012, until 8:00 P.M.
