Kerry Ryan was one of the most popular girls at Hefner Jr. High (now Hefner Middle School) in the early 1980s. She was an 8th grade cheerleader and a 9th grade Drill Team captain, and took part in many other school activities. She was incredibly sweet and kind to everyone she met, and made everyone around her feel comfortable. Because of this, her friends nicknamed her "Carebear." Her high school goal was to be a cheerleader, and she had many other ambitions as well, but her dreams were cut short on July 21, 1984, when a rear tire of the car she was riding in blew out and the car crashed into a utility pole, and she died of her injuries two hours later. Her best friend, Carla Custer, was treated and released soon enough to attend her funeral two days later. Kerry would always be remembered as a young lady everyone could love--cute and full of life.
