Vincent was the son of Joel Parker Whitney and his soon-to-be third wife Lucy Ann Chadwick. In 1906 at San Francisco, Vincent wed Pearl Landers, a belle and amateur actress. They were the parents of two daughters; however, the marriage broke up in 1920. When his wealthy father died in 1913, bitter litigation in the family over his millions followed. Vincent gained control and became president of the Whitney Estate Company, along with his regular profession as the founder of Whitney and Baird Insurance Brokers of San Francisco. It is said that the wealth of the Whitney empire passed through Vincent's descendents to the dismay of the rest of J. Parker Whitney's descendents. In 1910 he had been the Pacific Coast golf champion, and years later he drove the first ball off the first tee at Lincoln Park, where he had helped plan the first nine holes in the place where the vast Whitney ranch holdings had once been. He was a member of the Pacific Union Club and San Francisco Golf Club. He died after a long illness at age 86 and was survived by his daughters Elizabeth Ann Whitney and Beryl Heuermann, two grandsons, and four g-grandsons.
