Obituary:
"CONRAD HUBA, SR. DEAD.
"Old German Resident and Well Known Contractor.
"Conrad Huba, sr., one of the best known and oldest German citizens of Albany, died yesterday at the home of his oldest son, Conrad, 1 West Lawrence streeet, aged 8_ [84, although it should be 83] years. Mr. Huba has been ill only 10 days, although he never fully recovered from an accident sustained two years ago, when he fell and broke his hip. Since he retired from active business pursuits, Mr. Huba had made his home with his son, whose fifty-ninth birthday will be to-morrow.
"He was born in Damstadt, Germany, in 1826, but came to the county in 1848 and had lived in Albany ever since, all of that time in the Tenth and Seventh wards. For many years he was a stone mason and later carried on a contracting business that grew larger. Many of the dwellings and business blocks in the west end of the city were built by him. His sterling integrity and unfailing honesty of purpose won him a reputation among his neighbors that will prove lasting.
"Mr. Huba always manifested a great interest in the German societies of Albany, many of which he assisted in organizing. For many years he was a member of several of them and was prominent in everything that pertained to their welfare. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows. In 1858 [?] he married Miss Gertrude Buncher of Newtonville, who died _3 [13?] years ago. Children surviving are Conrad, John Henry, Christopher Louis and William Huba and Mrs. Jacob Menion [Menton], Mrs. Benjamin Cross and Susan Huba, all living in Albany, and 11 [?] grandchildren and 11 [?] great-grandchildren.
"The funeral services will be held at the residence of his son to-morrow afternoon at 2 [?] o'clock, the Rev. Dr. Crounse officiating. Interment will be in the Rural cemetery."
