ANNA MARIE (NIELSEN) CUMMINGS (1899-1986): Anna was the 2nd of 7 children born to Albert Nielsen and Anna Marie Groth. She was obviously named after her mother. In 1917, two years before her older sister, Maja, was married, Anna married Ralph Marshall Cummings (1891-1969), who worked as a stationary engineer for the San Francisco Fire Department. Ralph was very warm, friendly, helpful and handy, especially fixing plumbing problems at sister-in-law’s Maja’s house. He also had a very infectious laugh, reminiscent of Muttley, the sidekick dog of Dick Dastardly, from Hanna-Barbera’s Wacky Races TV cartoon show of the late 1960s. Ralph and Anna lived at 623 Hearst Avenue.

Anna worked for a time with her sister, Maja, at the phone company, but became a homemaker to raise her two sons, Ralph Albert Cummings (1918-1998) and Robert Truman “Bob” Cummings, Sr. (1920-2000). Anna was a wonderful cook and had a great sense of humor. Tragically in 1969, Anna's husband, Ralph, suffered a heart attack and died while driving. Because they were so close, Anna was never the same after Ralph passed away. She died in 1986.
