CHILDERS: Warren S. Childers, Sr., loving and caring person, passed away on October 2, 2001 at 1:30 A.M. He is survived by his brother, Lyman (Arlene) Childers, Ely, MN; sister, Pauline Giuliani, Britt, MN; five sons, Rich (Debby) Childers, Maple Grove, MN; King (Elsie) Childers, Sebeka, MN; Warren Jr. (Mary) Childers, Charlotte, NC; Bob (Maxine) and Ken (laurie) Owens, Washington, D.C. area; one daughter, Cheryl Ann Childers, Germantown, MD; Brother-in-law, Robert (Leatrice) Marson, Crawford, NJ; eleven grandchildren; many cousins, nephews and nieces in Ely and throughout the U.S. Warren always considered Ely as his true home after living in numerous locations throughout the U.S. Warren was born in St. Cloud, MN, moving to Ely, MN in 1927 where he attended school including Ely Junior College. He attended Pioneer Old High School, Lincoln, Washington, and EHS schools while living in Winton, Soudan, and McComber, MN. He worked in various jobs in the Ely/Soudan area including CCC Camp 715 in Brittmount, MN. He was a Veteran of WWII and was a life member of both the American Legion Post #316 and DAV Chapter # 51 in Atlantic Beach, FL. As a career employee of the Federal Govt, he worked in various positions with the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Army Medical Corps, Office of the Chief Engineer, the Dept. of Health, Education and Welfare at the National Institute of Health, and the U.S. Civil Service Commision interviewing candidates for Top Government positions. After retirement, he worked as a Government Consultant, and as a Contractor with DHEW Designing the Emergency Health Service Plans for the District of Columbia. He also founded and operated the ARAM Book Store, and Whippet Speedy Courier Service in Silver Springs, MD. After he retired to Atlantic Beach, he worked as an Officer or Trusted Servant in several volunteer organizations, including AARP, NE Florida Council on Alcoholism & Drug Abuse, and Alcoholic Anonymous, working continuously in service for over 25 years. He expanded his continuous Education over the years, including, learning computer courses in his 75th year. He was Co-founder, Public Information Officer and Deacon of the Congregation of YAHWEH, in Jacksonville, FL. After cremation, he will be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the World Christian Mission, 1015 Atlantic Blvd. #148, Atlantic Beach, FL 32233. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM Saturday, October 6th, 2001 in the Chapel of HARDAGE-GIDDENS Funeral Home, 1701 Beach Blvd. Jacksonville Beach, FL.
