Daniel Coleman, born 1838 in Athens, served in the Confederate Army, was elected state senator from Limestone and Lauderdale counties for three sessions, resigned to practice law in Huntsville. He was elected Solicitor of the Eighth Judicial Circuit by the general assembly for six years and was President of the Alabama Bar Association in 1884. Mr. Coleman was appointed by President Cleveland to the Consulship of St. Etienne, France in 1886. Daniel married Claude Le Vert and inherited the house at 517 Adams Street. Daniel passed away in 1906. His younger brother Frank Coleman born in 1849, was Registrar of the U. S. Land Office from 1885 to 1896, and also resided at the Adams Street address.
