Amelia "Nell" Reed, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Friday, March 30, 2012, under the care of her family and Niagara Hospice.
She was born in Buffalo, NY, on November 10, 1919, the daughter of the late Jozsef and Emy "Anna" (Kyryk) Maslany.
Mrs. Reed graduated from Buffalo State Teachers College. She moved to Niagara Falls in 1945. She was a substitute teacher at Beach Avenue Elementary School for several years and later was employed with the Niagara Falls Library for 11 years, before retiring in 1983.
Mrs. Reed was a long standing member of the Sacred Heart Church and volunteered at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Reed was the wife of the late George J. Reed, who died in August of 1990; they were married on April 16, 1945.
She is survived by one son, Mark (Marti) Reed of Mt. Dora, FL; one daughter, Jane (Walter ) Dean of Niagara Falls, NY; four grandchildren, Bryan (Stacey) Dean, Christopher (Jodie) Reed, Jennifer (fiance Gary) Dean and Craig Reed; three great- grandchildren, Kyle and Kendall Dean, and Derek Reed; two sisters, Kathryn (late James) Miller, Patricia (late Edward) Stepien; her longtime friend and neighbor, Emily Gniazdowski. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Reed was the sister of the late Rose (late Frank) Meiler.
