A graduate of Loyola University,Chicago, she received her MA. from Indiana University. Then she did additional post-graduate work at Marquate University, Milwaukee and St.Louis University. Sister had wide experience in education at the elementary, secondary, and collegiate level, including fifteen years as Academic Dean at Marian College, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. She then served as the community supervisor of the schools staffed by Sisters of St.Agnes in New York and Pennsylvania.

In 1959, her book; With All Devotedness--Chronicles of the Sisters of St.Agnes, was published.

Although Sister Vera was president for less than a year, she was one of the founders of Marian College. As Academic Dean, she provided the vision and curriculum from its start. Her experience as an educator, together with her philosophy and goals, provided a firm foundation for the new institution. She became Marian's first appointed President. Today, one of the College's primary living residences, Naber Hall, is named in her honor.

Former principal at D.C.H.S. dies

Sister Vera, C.S.A., 88, former principal at both Decatur Catholic high school and St. Joseph’s elementary school, died at 11:25 p.m. Thursday at Nazareth Heights, located near Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, it was learned this morning. She had been in failing health for several years.

She served as principal at D.C. H.S. from 1928 to 1934 and returned to Decatur principal of St. Joseph’s elementary school from 1963 to 1967. Sister Vera wrote a book about the history of the Sisters of St. Agnes entitled, “With All Devotedness.: Sister Vera was a widely respected educator and had many friends in this area.

She became a professed member of the congregation of the Sisters of St. Agnes in August of 1905.

She was born in Wisconsin on March 4, 1885, the daughter of Henry and Bernadina Wiemer-Naber.

Sister Vera was the founder and first dean of Marian College, located in Fon du Lac, in 1936.

A memorial mass will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at Dorcas chapel at Marian College, and a funeral mass will also be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Nazareth Heights. Burial will be in the St. Joseph’s Springs cemetery, Fon du Lac. The Zacherl funeral home in Fon du Lac is in charge of the arrangements.
