ST. PETERSBURG, FL - Dr. Louis Penensick of 333 Boca Ciega Point Boulevard N., formerly of Olean, NY, passed away peacefully Friday (March 9, 2012) in Bay Pines Veterans Administration Hospital, St. Petersburg.

Born Sept 6, 1919, in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of Harry and Rachel Spector Penensick. In 1944, in Brooklyn, he married Ruth S. Weiss, his wife of 68 years, who survives.

Dr. Penensick was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Army from 1943 to 1946. He then received his doctorate degree from the Long Island University School of Podiatry. He had been employed in a private practice in Olean for more than 30 years until his retirement, after which he and his wife moved to Florida.

He was a longtime member of Temple B'Nai Israel in Olean and had currently been a member of Temple Beth El in St. Petersburg. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners, with which he enjoyed his activities in the Ismalia Go-Kart Corps. The Shriners are what enabled him to help the many crippled and burned children that he took such a personal interest in over the years.

While in FLorida, he volunteered his talents by helping to rehabilitate injured birds at the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary in Indian Shores.

Surviving besides his wife are one daughter, Harriet (Glenn) Miller of Seminole; one grandson, Michael (Stephanie) Desnoyers of San Francisco; and several nephews.

Friends are invited to attend a grveside service to be held Thursday (March 15, 2012) at 11:30 am in the B'Nai Israel Cemetery in Olean. Dr. David Shulman will officiate. Most family members will remain in Florida as they help care for Mrs. Penensick who is unable to travel at this time.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Shriners Hospital of Erie, 1645 W. 8th St., Erie, PA 16505.

Arrangements are under the dierction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean. Online condolences may be expressed at oleanfuneralhome.com
