Marie Cummings, 78, formerly of 529 Iowa Avenue, died Tuesday at a nursing home in Waukesha, Wis., following a lengthy illness. Services will be Friday at First United Methodist Church in North Liberty. Burial will be at Memory Gardens in Iowa City. Friends may call Thursday at the Beckman-Butherus Funeral Chapel in North Liberty.
Mrs. Cummings was born April 20, 1895 in Cedar Bluffs, and married Alvin Ray Cummings in Iowa City. He preceded her in death in 1953. The couple lived in the Riverside and North Liberty areas all their married life. Following her husband's death, Mrs. Cummings moved to Iowa City, where she lived until last July.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in North Liberty and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are a son, Harold of Waukesha, Wis.; a daughter, Mrs. William (Margaret) Wright of Old Lyme, Conn.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Wayne Tiss of Laguna Hills, Calif. and Mrs. Harold Claypool of Williamsburg, and a brother, Harold Benda of Des Moines.
