Son of William Woodbury and Maybell Tindall Atkinson, husband of Mary Pearl Summerford.

BRITTONS NECK - David Power Atkinson, 91, passed away Monday, April 09, 2012, after a short illness.

He was born November 17, 1920, the first of nine children born to the late William Woodbury Atkinson and the late Maybel Tindall Atkinson. He was married September 14, 1946, to the late Mary Pearl Summerford Atkinson for 61 years. He was a WWII Army Veteran serving in the South Pacific and Okinawa. He worked as a carpenter and farmer. He was also an avid gardener who enjoyed sharing his vegetables with family and friends. He was a faithful member of Nebo Baptist Church serving as a Deacon, Training Union Director, and member of the Men's Brotherhood.

Surviving are two daughters, Dianne (Johnnie) Powell of Johnsonville and Mary Doris Williams of Britton's Neck; two sisters, Julia Bell Richardson and Eloise (Horace) Ammons; 6 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends with whom he enjoyed eating fish and drinking coffee.

He was predeceased by brothers, Burn, Harmon, and W.J. and sisters, Doraletha and Wanda Atkinson.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Nebo Baptist Church, Britton's Neck. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery directed by Smith-Collins Funeral Home.
