Joanna was born in Schmolzin, Germany and married Carl L Birr in 1863. They immigrated to the US in 1884 with their 6 children: Oscar, Charles, Herman, Mary, Augusta and Mary. They located in LeSeuer and Eliza was born there. Several other children were born, but preceded their parents in death. In 1889, they moved to Medo Twp. and lived there until Joanna's death. They were buried in the Morrow Cemetery in Beuford, which is now known as Beuford #1.
