On December 24, 1855, in Philadelphia, Frederick Koch married to Caroline Lanard, the daughter of Daniel Lanard and Elizabeth Wagner. Frederick and Caroline had six children: Catharine Koch (1858-1863); Clara Harriet Koch Waldeck (1860-1950); Philip Frederick Koch (1861-?); Charles Henry Koch (1863-?); Daniel Koch (1866-1869); and Catharine Elizabeth Koch (1868-?)
On February 10, 1864, in Philadelphia, Frederick Koch, aged 33, and a bricklayer, enlisted as a volunteer for Company A 5 Pennsylvania Cavlary which he later promoted to a Corporal. On August 7, 1865, in Richmond, Va, he mustered out.
After the death of his wife, Caroline, on December 4, 1869, and his son Daniel on December 15, 1869, left him a widower with children.
In June, or July 18, 1870, in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, Frederick Koch married to Mary Amanda Linsenbigler by Rev. Mr Porter. They had Henry (1871-1939); Frederick Koch (1874-1940); Mary Amanda Koch (1877-1878) and Edward Koch (1879-?).
In 1891, Frederick Koch was a patient at National Solider Home in Dayton, Ohio, where he stayed there for 20 more years before he died on November 14, 1911. {Civil War Records, Census, Dayton National Cemetery}
