Benjamin F. Bailey, 80, of Epping NH, died Feb. 15, 2006, in his home after a long illness. He was born Oct. 24, 1925, in Alna ME, the son of Linwood A. Bailey, Sr., and Rosetta (Kennerson) Bailey. He was a graduate of Bridge Academy, Dresden ME. During the Second World War, he served in the Merchant Marines.

In his early years, he worked as a truck driver, operated a grain store in Portsmouth in the early 1950s, worked for the Pinkerton Detective Agency in the mid-1950s, was a special officer with the Hampton Police Department in the 1960s, and later worked as a security officer at Western Electric, Andover, Mass. He managed the Muriel Church farm in Chester for many years. He retired from Western Electric in 1986. Mr. Bailey received an associate degree from the University of New Hampshire College of Lifelong Learning in June 2000. He was a lay minister and assistant to the pastor for many years at the People's United Methodist Church, Fremont. He was a member of Rockingham Grange, Epping; East Rockingham Pomona Grange; New Hampshire State Grange; hymn sing leader at Rockingham County Nursing Home; a Hospice volunteer; a Senior Companion; member of the Outreach Committee at People's United Methodist Church; and an avid baseball fan.

He was predeceased by his wife Rosa M. (Durgan) Bailey in 1993, daughter Susan Bailey in 1983, sister Margorie Colpitt Adams in 2002, and brother Winthrop Bailey, in 2006.

He is survived by his sons B. Richard Bailey and wife Patricia of Hudson NH, Rev. David W. Bailey and wife Kathleen of Raymond NH, Jeffrey M. Bailey and wife Susan of Nashua NH, and Paul Bailey of Epping, with whom he made his home; daughters, Estelle M. Decatur husband E. Forrest Decatur of East Kingston NH, Rosa M. Davis and husband Michael of Fremont NH, and Connie-Jean Hatgidek of Epping; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers Linwood A. Bailey and wife Mary Lou of Alna ME and Charles L. Bailey and wife Gloria of Edgecomb ME; sisters Virginia Wright of Whitefield ME, Rosetta Burns of Alna, Ernestine Lincoln of Whitefield ME, and Marguerite Fairfield and husband Schuyler of Wiscasset ME; sisters-in-law Olive Kinch of Exeter and Eleanor Condon of Winterport ME; many nieces and nephews; and many friends.
