Edith Stackhouse Berger, 101, of Unityville, died Nov. 5, 2009, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Arlene and Raymond Hummell in Mays Landing, N.J. with whom she lived for the past few years.

She was born in Jordan Twp. on Aug. 27, 1908. Edith attended one-room schools in Jordan Twp.

Her parents were the late Charles and Harriet Sherwood.

Her hobbies were playing cards with friends, crocheting, sewing and quilting. She enjoyed helping the Unityville Fire Co. with the buckwheat cake and sausage suppers that are held in November.

Edith also worked for several years at Weldon's Pajama Factory in Muncy.

Besides her daughter and son-in-law, she is survived by three grandsons, Larry Hummell of Mays Landing, N.J., Randy (Diane) Hummell of Montpelier, Va., and Ronald Hummell of Rio Rancho, N.M.; two great- grandchildren, Robert (Wendy) Hummell of Smithfield, Va. and Barbara Hummell of Richmond, Va.; five great- great-grandchildren, Isabella, Alexis, Ciera, Elise and Lexie all of Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Dec. 5 at the Salem United Methodist Church Cementry in Unityville.
