DEATH OF A PIONEER

In the death of Mrs. Rebecca Wollam, which occurred yesterday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.O. Layton, one of the earlier residents of this section of the state passed away. Mrs. Wollam was in comparatively good health until last week Friday when she suffered a paralytic stroke. Since then her decline had been gradual, and she quietly passed away at 2:30 o'clock.

Mrs. Wollam was a native of Ohio and born on April 16, 1826. Her husband died about ten years ago, and since then she has made her home with her children. She with her family came to Minnesota in 1858 and settled in Traverse. For the past seven years she has been living with her daughter, Mrs. W.O. Layton. Mrs. Wollam was one of the best known of the older residents of this section and was held in high esteem. She was of a generous and social nature, and her death leaves a void in the ranks of the pioneers.

She is survived by four daughters and two sons: Mrs. William Volk, of Mankato; Mrs. H.C. Davis, of Cleveland; H.B. Wollam, of Argyle; Mrs. W.O. Layton and Mrs. Simpson, of St. Peter; and Thomas Wollam, of Traverse.

Funeral services will be held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.O. Layton, tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock, and the burial will be in Greenhill cemetery.

DEATH OF REBECCA WOLLAM

In the death of Mrs. Rebecca Wollam, which occurred Friday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.O. Layton, one of the earlier residents of this section of the state passed away. Mrs. Wollam had been in poor health for a number of years. On last week Friday she suffered a paralytic stroke, and from the first very little hope was entertained, and she gradually and quietly passed away at 2:30 o'clock that morning.

Mrs. Wollam was born in Allegany county, PA, on April 16, 1826, and was 84 years and 8 months old at the time of her death. When she was 18 years of age, she moved with her parents to Frederictown, Ohio, where she was united in marriage to Thomas Wollam in 1847.

She, with her family, came to Minnesota in 1858 and settled in Traverse. Mrs. Wollam was one of the best known of the older residents of this section and was held in high esteem. She was of a genial and social nature, and her death leaves a void in the ranks of the pioneers. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church for many years. Her husband died ten years ago, and she is survived by one brother and one sister, who reside in Ohio.

There are six children left to mourn her death. They are as follows: Mrs. William Volk, Mankato; H.B. Wollam, Argyle, MN; Mrs. H.C. Davis, Cleveland; Mrs. W.O. Layton, Mrs. Ella Simpson, and T.C. Wollam of this city. There are 11 grandchildren and 8 greatgrandchildren.

The funeral was held at the home of W.O. Layton Sunday afternoon, Dr. L.H. Woodworth, officiating, and the interment was made in Green Hill cemetery.
