A Card of Thanks

I wish to thank my neighbors and friends for their kindness and assistance during my father's sickness and death, who died of lagrippe and heart trouble. He was well known as Uncle James McGinnis. Born March 4th, 1819 died March 25th 1903, aged 84 years and 21 days. Wm. McGinnis

AND

James McGinnis died at the home of his son, William McGinnis, four miles southeast of Ozark Wednesday March 25th, 1903, aged 84 years and 21 days. He was born in Grainger County, Tennessee, March 4th, 1819. He was married to Miss Sarah Dalton in 1844. Moved to this country about fifty years ago. He entered 160 acres of land in the southwest part of this county lying along the line between Christian and Stone Counties, east of Ponce de Leon. He was the father of twelve children, 4 boys and 8 girls, nine of who are still living, all having families with 45 grandchildren. He was an honest man, for truth and integrity was not excelled, he never tried to cheat or defraud his fellow man. While not a member of any church, yet he looked upon some of the evils that are practiced by some church members with utter contempt. When there was no church house near in which to worship, he opened his doors time after time to hold meetings. He was a veteran of the civil war, and served his country faithfully for several years. He had lived with his son William for some time, until God in his providence called him from this world. I am informed that a short time before he died, he said he was ready and willing to go. His remains were taken to the old homestead, on which he had deeded a funeral place for himself and others. The services were conducted by Rev. J. A. Grubaugh at the cemetery on Friday, March 27th to a large concourse of friends and relatives who came to pay their last tribute of respect to the aged father. All the children were present except one. Mrs. J. R. McGinnis who is very low with consumption. May the blessing of God attend each one as they go down life's rugged pathway. A FRIEND.
