Marvin Jack Barnes, 85, of Stillwater, died May 27, 2004 at Stillwater Medical Center. Services will be at Sunnybrook Christian Church Monday at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell, Oklahoma, Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. Strode Funeral Home is in charge. Memorial donations may be made to Baptist Children's Home, 16301 S. Western, Moore, OK 73170 or Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, 825 NE 13th, Oklahoma City, OK 73104.

Marvin was born in Rosedale, Oklahoma on May 21, 1919 to John Jackson Barnes and Delia Kirkland. He married I.R. "Bobbie" Girty on December 7, 1941 in Orange, Texas. Mr. Barnes grew up in Rosedale, OK, attended Oklahoma University for one year, then wised up and finished his degree at Oklahoma A&M. He has held season tickets for OSU football since 1965, and when Gallagher Iba was renovated, he added season tickets for basketball as well. He loved OSU sports! His life has been one of service.

He served in the military and was a Deacon for 62 years in the various Baptist churches they have attended. He will be remembered as a strong Christian example with a steadfast faith, and inspiration to everyone who knew him. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church of Stillwater.

He was an engineer in the oil industry. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #36 in Oklahoma City, OK; the National and Local Welding Society; and the Gideon's.

He was predeceased by his parents, 3 sisters, and 1 brother.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie; 1 daughter, Marva J. Roach and husband Scott of Stillwater; 2 grandchildren, Dillon Roach of Oklahoma City, OK, and Daniel Roach and wife, Cassidy, of Phoenix, AZ; 2 brothers, Eldred Barnes and wife, Pam, of Sulphur, OK, Leo Barnes and wife, Mary Lou, of Sulphur, OK; 3 sisters in law, Doris Prichard and husband, Charles, of Lawton, OK, Winnie Clark and husband, Gene, of Casper, WY, Doris May Girty of Albuquerque, NM, and brother in law, Paul Girty and wife, Billie Ruth, of Cherokee, OK. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Serving as ministers for the service will be Pastor Wayne Sanmann of Southside Baptist Church of Stillwater, and Mr. Larry Merideth of First Baptist Church, Tulsa.
