Hazel Rawlings Black, 98, passed away on April 15, 2012 at her residence. She was born to C.C. "Charley" and Florence Rawlings on July 18, 1914 in Sheridan, Wyoming. She grew up on her Dad's dairy farm and attended school in Ranchester.

Hazel married John R. Black in 1933. She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers, Cap, Byron and Bob Rawlings; and her son, Bud. She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie; son, Mike; daughter-in-law, Maria Black; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Hazel worked in the family banking business in Ranchester for 23 years. After her dad passed away, she finished writing and publishing his book "Our Neck O' The Woods." She moved to Sheridan and worked at the Sheridan Inn, retiring at the age of 70. She was an active member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church and Alter Guild. Music was her love and she was a pianist for many generations over the years.

Hazel was kind, young at heart, had a sunny disposition, and a smile for everyone. Her favorite things in life were her family, music, horses and her cat, Smokey.

At her request cremation has taken place and there will be no services.
