George Robert Carstens was born on July 28, 1940 at Winside the son of Hans Christian and Ruby Irene (Myers) Carstens. George died Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Pierce Manor, Pierce, Nebraska.

George graduated from Winside High School. George married Barbara Ave on June 12, 1960 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hoskins. The couple moved to Lincoln and in 1960s he began working for the U.S. Post Office as a mail carrier. 1978 he was transferred to Norfolk where he worked as a clerk until retiring in 1992. He farmed for a few years and then worked as the custodian for 10 years at Our Savior Lutheran Church.

George was a past member of Christ Lutheran Church, Lincoln, and was currently a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Norfolk. George had a special love for his Lord and his family and especially enjoyed camping with his children and other family members.

George is survived by: wife, Barb Carstens of Hoskins, sons, Lonnie (Chris) Carstens of Pierce, and Kevin (Peggy) Carstens of Beatrice, brothers, Jack (Annette) Carstens of Lincoln, Dean (Sharon) Carstens of Norfolk, sisters, Mary Otto and Nancy (Clark) Bauer all of Lincoln, grandchildren, Cassie (Luke) Koerting, Nate (Cheree) Carstens, Nicole Carstens, Cory (Misti) Carstens, great grandson, Jaxon Koerting, great granddaughters, Mercadeze, Rileagh, and Haidyn, 2 step grandchildren, and 8 step great grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by: son Keith, brothers Richard and Leroy and sister Ethel.

Burial was in the Lincoln Memorial Park, Lincoln, NE.
