ALFRED J. ORTLIEB

Alfred J. Ortlieb, 79, of 735 Second St., Kiel, died unexpectedly Sunday morning, Oct. 17, 2004. Born Oct. 1, 1925 in Chilton, he was the son of the late George and Clara Scharenbroch-Ortlieb. He attended St. Mary's School and Chilton High School.

Al was drafted into the Navy and served from 1944 until 1946. On Oct. 12, 1948, he married the former Evelyn Danes and the couple celebrated their 56th anniversary.

For 18 years Al worked for the Leverenz Shoe Co., and then he was a postal clerk for 22 years retiring in 1986. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church where he was a member of the Men's Club and was an usher for many years. Al was also a member of the Kiel VFW Post 6707. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, golfing, woodworking and playing cards with his numerous card clubs.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; two daughters, Janice (Clifford) Conrad of Elkhart Lake and Sue Ann Ortlieb of Kiel; his grandchildren, Patrick and Linda Ortlieb of Sheboygan, Michael and Amy Ortlieb of Sheboygan, Troy Conrad and fiancé Anne Scheible of Elkhart Lake, Dawn and Travis Sander of Kiel, Brenda Conrad and son Zachary of Michigan, Tony and Amanda Banes and daughters McKenzie and Samantha of Michigan.

He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel, one brother, two sisters, two sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, with the Rev. Loren Nys S.D.S. officiating. Entombment will be at Knollwood Mausoleum. Friends may call at the Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, Kiel, from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, and from 9 until 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday when brief family rites will be held before the procession to Church.
