Isabella's family decided to immigrate from Londonderry, North Ireland to Canada in the late 1870's.

Isabella Mulberry and two of her brothers, James Thomson Mulberry and Thomas Mulberry were the first to set sail on the Allan Steamship Line from Liverpool upon a ship called "The Polynesian", or "The Rolling Polly"; and arrived in 1878. Her mother Annie Mulberry arrived in 1880 with 4 children: Dave, Mary, Christiana, Elizabeth, as well as her Mother's brother-in-law David Mulberry.

While awaiting immigration to Canada, her father James Mulberry became ill (believed to be dysentery) and died in England while awaiting the ship. Mrs. Annie Mulberry accompanied her children on her own to Canada on the Allan Steamship Line, and arrived in Rapid City, Manitoba. They chose Rapid City as relatives had already settled there. (niece Jane Thompson; daughter to John Mulberry - the brother of James Mulberry).

Following several years of crop disasters, the family decided to move west to Spy Hill. In 1883 they filed on homesteads near the Cut Arm Valley. N.W. 14-18-31, and 22-18-31.
