On 22 December 1896, "Corrie" married Dominic Schmidt at Saint Boniface Catholic Church in Manitowoc, WI; he was age 24, she was 23. Born in Rudna, Poland; Dominic was the oldest of six children born to Anton & Marianna Gertrude (Gbur) Dyk. After his birth father died in 1881, his mother second married and Dominic took his step-fathers name.
A homemaker & mother of six, she also raised two of her granddaughters when her daughter Evelyn died suddenly.
One of those granddaughter's, Corrie (Iverson) Rezachek shared: "Grandpa Schmidt died when I was young. Grandma raised my sister Alice and & I (my father & his second wife raised my sisters Ann & Bettie.) We grew up poor but never knew it. (Grandma) Mom was our inspiration. She kept us warm & well fed; she sewed all our clothes, cared for a large garden, did a lot of canning & preserving; stretching the money to give us a wonderful childhood. She was a tiny lady (less than five feet tall); hard working, kind, strict but gentle. She never said "I love you" but I knew it was true, from how she was to me & Alice."
