Cager C. Coomer, of 606 Rice Drive, Columbia, a retired merchant and livestock dealer, died Tuesday, January 1, 1985, at 7:15 p.m. at Westlake Cumberland Hospital, in Columbia, after a long illness. He was 70. He was widely known not only in Adair County, but all around South Central Kentucky. Coomer operated a country store in Gradyville for a number of years and later operated a store in Taylor County for several years, before moving back to Columbia in the 1970's. However, he was better known for his many years of dealing in livestock, something he continued to do up until the illness that resulted in his death. He was the son of the late Lonnie and Kate Stevens Coomer of Adair County. He is survived by his wife, Edith Curry Coomer, of Columbia; two sons, David Coomer of Middletown, Ohio, and Reverend Harold Coomer of Decatur, Alabama; and seven grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Obie Coomer and Lindell Coomer, both of Chicago, Illinois, and one sister!
, Mrs. Geneva Phelps of Columbia. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Columbia, and a member of the Columbia Masonic Lodge. Funeral service was held Friday, January 4, at 10:30 a.m. at Stotts-Phelps-MCQueary Funeral Home. Clergy officiating were Reverend William Davenport and Reverend John L. Coomer.
