Worked at Hooker for 33 years
YOUNGSTOWN - J. Arthur Winslow, 77, of Church' Street, died in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, on Monday (March 21, 1988).
Born in Benezette, Pa., he lived in Youngstown more than 50 years. He worked as a chemical operator for the former Hooker Chemical Co., Niagara Falls, for 33 years, retiring in 1975.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of the Hooker Retirees Club, St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church of Youngstown, formerly a member of the New York State National Guard and its rifle team, a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and the Youngstown Senior Citizens.
He did volunteer work at the Our Lady of Fatima Shrine and was also an active volunteer in the Youngstown Community Cooperative program.
He is survived by his wife, Tanis L. (Ramirez) Winslow; a daughter, Mary Lou Schultz of Lewiston; sons, Arthur R. Winslow, L. Leo Winslow, both of Youngstown, and James N. Winslow of Conneaut, Ohio; a brother, Francis B. Winslow, of Emporium, Pa.; a. sister, M. Bernice Jones of Rochester, Mich.; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was the son of the late Carpenter and Catherine ( Gibbons) Winslow and brother of the late Beatrice A. Holtzhauser, Rose A. Winslow, Marcella A. May, Lucille D. Feldbauer, Loren A. Winslow, Catherine Winslow, John E. Winslow and Paul L. Winslow.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m., today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Hardison Funeral Homes, Fourth and Ridge streets, Lewiston, where a prayer service will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted by the Rev. Thomas Moran at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be in St.
Bernard's Cemetery.
Contributions to the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Co. Ambulance Fund are acceptable as tribute.
