James Dale Hibbs, 88, of Meadowdale Community, Fairmont passed away Wednesday June 22, 2011 at Chesapeake General Hospital in Chesapeake, Virginia.

He was born in Wetzel County on April 6, 1923, a son of the late Riley and Mary (Cross) Hibbs.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Louise (Tennant) Hibbs in February of 1997. The couple married in July of 1944.

Jim proudly served his country with the United States Navy during World War II. He was an electrician by trade, working at the Westinghouse Lamp Plant and retiring from North American Philips. He was a graduate of Clay- Battelle High School. He was a member of H & H Chapel United Methodist Church and a past member of the Meadowdale Lions Club.

He is survived by one son, Ralph Hibbs and his wife Annamarie of Castle Rock, CO, one daughter, Patricia McClung and her husband Robert of Summerfield, FL, six grandchildren, Chris McClung and his wife Valerie of Chesapeake, VA, Andy McClung and his wife Kathleen of Jacksonville, FL, Jamie McClung and his wife Kristina of Palm Beach, FL, Robbie Hibbs and his wife Alicia of Roanoke, VA, Doug Hibbs of Roanoke, VA and Ashley Hibbs of Roanoke, VA and ten great grandchildren, Preston Hibbs, Justin Hibbs, Ava Hibbs, Austin Nakhle, Christian McClung, Drew McClung, Mara McClung, Alana McClung, Tabitha McClung and Lily McClung.

Also surviving is a brother, Harold Hibbs of Valley Lee, MD.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Samuel and Earnest Hibbs, three sisters, Laurine Hibbs, Georgia Brewer, and Alta Wilson, three half brothers, Robert Thomas, Charles Taylor, and John Hibbs, and six half sisters, Maxine Mack, Bonnie Hayes, Mae Parrish, Lucy Rebold, Hazel Stiles, and Phyllis Smallwood.

Family and friends may call at the Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont on Sunday from 3-8 pm and on Monday from 10-11 am. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday June 27, 2011 at 11 am with Reverend Thomas Shepherd officiating. Interment will follow at Pisgah Cemetery in Monongalia County where full military rites will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard.
