Bertha Matthews
Mrs. Bertha Matthews, 94, died Wednesday, April 25, at the Gladwin Nursing Home after being in failing health for several years. Born in Wood County, Ohio, December 3, 1878 the former Bertha Frankfother and Ernest Matthews were married in Wood County December 23, 1894. Mr. Matthews died in Gladwin August 3, 1965. After their marriage they lived in Ohio, Chatham, Ontario, Saginaw and Breckenridge before coming to Gladwin in 1937.

Surviving are two sons, Ernest Jr. of Burt Lake, Mich., and Clifford of Kerrville, Tex.; three daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Eva,) Sherman of Tiffin, Ohio; Mrs. Lewis (Beatrice) Jameson of West Branch, and Mrs. George (Mary) Card of Pinconning; one sister, Mrs. Cora Bosler of San Diego, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren. One son, Ralph; preceded her in death in 1970.

Services were held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Gladwin Free Methodist Church, of which she was a member. The Rev. C. E. Howe officiated and burial was in Highland Cemetery. Arrangements were by Mathews Funeral Home. Gladwin County Record dated 5-2/1973 Column – 6 Page – 2.
