After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Chuck worked as a logger, heavy equipment operator, ran his own restaurant and after retiring from Shell Oil Co., as a land man and scout, he co-owned Mesa Liquors in Farmington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister-Ione Treadway, and son-in-law Gene Smith.
Chuck is survived by his daughter, Terry Smith; son, Charles R. Scheffing and wife, Regina; six grandchildren, Erin, Haleah and Derek Smith, all of Farmington, Chance Scheffing of West Palm Beach, Fla., Candice Scheffing of Raleigh, N.C., and Caleb Scheffing of Farmington; his brother, Gerald Scheffing and wife, Nana of Madera, Calif., and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at Greenlawn Cemetery, 1606 N. Dustin at 10 a.m. The family will be receiving friends at Terry's house. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 2182.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to San Juan College Foundation in Chuck's memory.
