In Newport, Kentucky, on Saturday morning, July 12th, 1862, at 10 o'clock, Volney Bailey, aged twenty years. Disease contracted while in the United States Army of the Potomac.
Again the hand of death has visited our home and removed another loved one to the brighter, more enduring home above. A light has vanished from our midst - a loved voice has grown silent. Dear brother, thou sleepest calm, and no loud, earthly tumult can break thy sweet repose. When the dark clouds of this existence drift away, and our life-bark is moored beyond the swelling sea of life, then shall severed chains be united, and "all tears be wiped away", white the voice of angels welcome the earth-weary pilgrim to the home eternal. Peace to thee brother dear. Take a sister's fond kiss, and a sincere prayer for thy happiness. S.E.B.W.
