It appears that Bernice's father must have changed the spelling of his name from Brown to Browne after 1905. Because Bernice's own birth record from 1901 (see below) uses the Browne spelling, one might at first glance assume that the change took place prior to her birth. However, note that "Bernice Browne Wolseley" appears as a "name note," so it must be a record created for her after her marriage to Roland Wolseley. She may have needed a birth certificate for a passport application or some other proof of age, so it doesn't really prove that the Browne spelling was used in 1901.
