Berneice Bowker

Berneice Bowker, 92, of Sidney, Neb., passed away Monday evening, April 23, 2012, at the Sidney Regional Medical Center Long Term Care Unit.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 30, in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sidney with Pastor Bradley Heinecke officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Marjorie Berneice Bowker, the daughter of William Alva and Dora Belle (Arnold) Samson, was born on April 21, 1920, at Norton County, Kan. She moved with her family several times between Norton County and Yuma County, Colo., by covered wagon, eventually settling in Southwest Nebraska. Berneice attended school at Sanborn and Beecher Island, Colo. On July 9, 1938, she was united in marriage to Levoine Eri Bowker at St. Francis, Kan. They lived in Sidney where Berneice worked as a nurse's aide until 1967 when they moved to Hawthorne, Nev., where she worked in a women's clothing and shoe store. Hawthorne was their home until relocating to Cheyenne, Wyo., in 1986 and back to Sidney in 1996.

Berneice was a loyal member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church until her health declined. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, and loved to crochet, paint and make pottery.

Survivors include her husband, Levoine of Sidney; one daughter-in-law, Mary Bowker of Sidney; four grandchildren, Yavette Prater and husband Richard of Sidney, Tonya Neemann and husband Joey of Lodgepole, Tim Bowker and wife Susan of Sidney, and Tom Bowker and significant other Jody of Terra Haute, Ind.; 10 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Berneice was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Dallas and Lee Bowker; and seven siblings, Loyd, Gladys, Violett, Leona, Guy, Alice and William.

Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service is in charge of Berneice's care and funeral arrangements.
